Introduction to Marketing
26 Sep 2006. 10am – 5pm. Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery.
This one-day course, focused on school and family audiences, will look at the importance of understanding key market segments and the developing and implementation of a marketing plan. It will also offer practical tips on writing press releases and preparing simple promotional literature.

Presentation Skills
10-11 Oct 2006. 9am – 5pm. The Herbert, Jordan Well, Coventry.
This popular course is specially designed for museum colleagues working with, and presenting information to, teachers, school-aged children, young people and families. The course explores effective ways of giving confident presentations to teachers, school children and families and understanding the dynamics of organised groups. Places are limited and early booking is recommended.

Hard to Reach Audiences
30 Oct 2006. 10am – 4pm. Thinktank, Millennium Point, Birmingham.
This seminar will look at ways of developing those audiences which can prove difficult to identify or to attract into museums. Speakers will talk about their work with Home Learner Groups, Pupil Re-integration Units and Foyer Projects and present ways of making exhibitions more ‘inclusive’.

Funding
6 Dec 2006. 10am – 4pm. Thinktank, Millennium Point, Birmingham.
This one-day workshop will include presentations from MLA West Midlands, Young Roots (HLF) and the Big Lottery. We will also hear about opportunities for partnership working provided by the introduction of extended school hours. Speakers will be looking at grants from charities, and the support offered by External Funding Officers. There will also be opportunities for participants to discuss their own funding issues and hear about the experiences faced by one West Midlands Learning Officer!
