MDA and MODES Join Forces to Improve Access to Standards

MDA, the UK's lead organisation for collections and information management has joined forces with The MODES Users Association (MUA) (the suppliers of MODES, one of the most widely- used software packages for documentation and cataloguing), to publish the SPECTRUM standard using XML.

Already freely available online for non-commercial use, SPECTRUM is recognised nationally and internationally as the industry standard for documentation. Under the terms of a new Agreement, the MUA has licensed a copy of their new MODES XML package to MDA for use as a publishing platform for SPECTRUM.

New Trustees Appointed to the National Trust Memorial Fund

The Prime Minister has appointed Kathryn Gee, Doug Hulyer and Christopher Woodward as Trustees of the National Heritage Memorial Fund. Their term of appointments will run from 10 September 2006 to 9 September 2009 and 1 November 2006 to 31 October 2009 respectively.
Better Stock, Better Libraries: a national library purchasing model

The Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) has unveiled a plan to save up to £20million a year, creating major opportunities for significant reinvestment in improving library services to customers. Better Stock, Better Libraries outlines a national library purchasing model. The new procurement arrangements, which maintain local accountability for stock selection, would mean better availability and more efficient management of stock, more flexibility to meet local needs and reduced unit costs of stock.
